After the Stone and Bronze Age came the Iron Age, which erupted the creation and use of tools and weapons made of iron. Before the Iron Age, weapons and farm tools were made of bronze. Iron tools were sturdier and more dependable than bronze. This transition increased the development of agriculture and warfare. Iron serves as the preferred metal of weaponry because iron is 12% lighter than bronze and is able to hold its sharpness much longer.
Around 1700 BC a great invasion of Aryans moved into India from the Northwest. The Aryan invaders had brought iron weapons with them and had used them on their chariots at battle. Civilizations were destroyed by the Aryan invaders. Eventually the Aryan’s techniques and weapons extended across the ancient world causing the collapse of the Bronze Age.
Another weapon used by ancient civilizations was the composite bow. The compound bow was a development in archery that effected the positions of power on the battlefield and led to the quick progress of the Akkadian Empire ruled by Sargon in 2350 B.C.E.
